After 20 years, PAWS is building its very own forever home. Designed especially for the pets and people who need us most, it will enable PAWS to change countless lives for decades to come.

Once-in-a-generation news

After a multi-year search and planning process, PAWS has acquired 2129 Oregon Avenue, where we will build a new, 18,500 sq. ft. facility — triple our current space — to bring our rescue, adoption, veterinary, and Safety Net programs together under one roof, meet the needs of our community, and allow for growth.

When it opens in late-2027, our new, permanent home will replace our two leased locations: our shelter/clinic in Grays Ferry, and our Old City adoption center. It will be a joyful, safe, welcoming place, celebrating the bond between pets and people, fostering their well-being, and enabling us to:

Rescue more animals with nowhere else to go and match them with loving foster and adoptive homes more quickly

Offer the animals we rescue a healthy, calm place to heal and thrive, in varied and flexible state-of-the-art housing based on Fear-Free principles

Offer our staff and volunteers a healthy, happy place to work

Consolidate our operations so we can use our time and resources more efficiently

Provide affordable veterinary care to more pet owners who could not access it otherwise

Support more pet owners who need help to keep their beloved companions as part of their family – in an environment where they feel cared for and at ease

Offer our community a place to gather, meet, learn, and collaborate

Invest in ourselves and secure our future by creating a forever home of our own

Our ideal setting

This 1.2-acre lot, on the corner of a busy commercial strip, offers everything we set out to find:

  • Ample parking, accessible via public transit and major highways, and bike-friendly

  • Plenty of outdoor space for dogs and people

  • Situated in, near, and accessible to neighborhoods where there is great need for our services

  • Community support — many neighbors are longtime PAWS foster, volunteers, donors, and clinic clients

Please note, PAWS' Northeast Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic will continue operating as usual — it provides vital services to a distinct community that we intend to remain a part of for a very long time to come!

This new building will exponentially increase the organization’s ability to deliver on its mission. We can’t wait.
